Country Games in Bangladesh

Country Games in Bangladesh

There are many games in Bangladesh. Some of which are known as country games or village games. Some of these are ha-du-du. Dariabadha  and kanamachi bho-bho. Ha-du-du is played between two teams. Each team consisting of equal number of players (uaually 6 to 12)  the play ground ha-du-du is divided into two halves and the two teams take their position in their individual half. A player from one team enters the opposite half to touch the opponent players. During this time he holds up his breath. If he can touch someone and can return to his own half without being caught, the touched player/ players are termed as dead and are out.

Thus competition goes on between the two teams. If one team loses all players the other team wins. The game is full of excitement and fun. In dariabadha individual performance of the players is considered. A player needs to struggle hard to cross certain route without being touched by other player who guard it. In kanamachi bho bho one player is made kanamachi by lottery. she/he is made blind with a rope tied over his/her. If the kanamachi can successfully touch someone, the touched player is then made kanamachi. Thus the game is played with a lot of fun and excitement. Although many country games are now going to be lost because of rapid urbanization, we should remember that our country games bear our cultural identity.
